Overnight Parking Ban

The Marinette Police Department would like to remind area residents that the overnight parking ban will go into effect on December 1, 2019 at 1 a.m.

The ordinance does not state that it must snow before the ordinance can be enforced.  It states that there will be NO overnight parking on City of Marinette streets or City of Marinette owned property (including parking lots) from the hours of 1 a.m. through 7 a.m. starting December 1st through April 1st.  The ordinance is written in this manner so that in the event of snow overnight, vehicles will already be removed.  Parking on the tree lawn is not an acceptable alternative unless a permit is obtained from the Civic Affairs, Cemetery, Traffic & Lights Committee.  The property owner would need to demonstrate that not allowing the property owner to utilize the tree lawn or public right-of-way would constitute a hardship and allowing said parking does not constitute a traffic hazard.

Residents are also reminded that overnight parking violation penalties are $40.00 and they double if not paid within 72 hours.

Overnight parking tickets will be issued beginning December 1st at 1 a.m.  All citizens are urged to find parking accommodations if they have not already done so.

RESCUE AIR BOAT CHALLENGE

The MFD is asking for the communities help to raise money to replace our aging and mechanically challenged Hovercraft with a more versatile and dependable air boat.

Our Hovercraft struggles mightily when ice conditions are not “perfect.” Shell ice, ice shoves and water to ice transitions pose major problems in rescue situations. Couple that with ongoing maintenance issues on the 23 year old machine and you have a craft that is ineffective when it is needed most.

Because of this we are trying to raise enough money for it’s replacement. If we can raise $155,000 by this fall, we can purchase a refurbished air boat.

RESCUE AIR BOAT CHALLENGE
•  Johnson Controls Contributions to the Marinette Fire Department (MFD)
•  Johnson Controls will contribute the profits from their two September 2019 ANSUL Fire
Schools with a minimum $10,000 guaranteed to the MFD for the purchase of an air boat.
•  Johnson Controls will also host MFD Firefighters to each of the three day ANSUL Fire
   Schools in September.

CORPORATE CHALLENGE (June Only): If a company pledges or donates $5,000 or more to the MFD Air Boat purchase during the month of June 2019, Johnson Controls will provide them with one three-day enrollment in a 2019 ANSUL Fire School ($1850 value)!

Besides the June only corporate challenge, If any individual community member wishes to contribute towards the purchase of our air boat, please contact the MFD at (715) 732-5170.

2019 Easter Basket Project

The City of Marinette is sponsoring the
EASTER BASKET PROJECT for area communities.

Pre-filled baskets will be donated through local crisis agencies, schools, local hospitals, churches, Human Services etc. In past years, over 300 baskets were delivered locally. Each basket is made by church youth groups, businesses, scout troops, classroom project, neighborhood gatherings, non-profit organizations, retired teachers, and private citizens. Several businesses hold competitions between departments for a monetary or quantity donation.

If a business, organization or individual person would like to contribute to the EASTER BASKET PROJECT pre-made baskets, items or monetary donations should be brought to the Community REC Center located at 2501 Pierce Ave, Marinette, WI. Prior to April 12th to ensure distribution through local agencies.

You’re encouraged to identify the donated basket for a girl or a boy with approximate age if possible. Children’s ages range from infant to pre-teen.
For those who wish to participate, but not assemble a basket, volunteers are available to shop and put together a basket for you. We’re asking for a donation of $50.00 which will enable us to purchase 5 baskets and its contents.

All Donations can be dropped off at the Community REC Center located at 2501 Pierce Ave, during regular business hours Monday – Sunday.
